American Forest & Paper Association Releases June 2018 Printing-Writing Paper Monthly Report

WASHINGTON - The American Forest & Paper Association released its June 2018 Printing-Writing Paper report on July 19.

Total printing-writing paper shipments decreased six percent in June compared to June 2017. Total printing-writing paper inventory levels decreased two percent from May. Imports of printing-writing papers in May increased 18 percent compared to May 2017 imports, while exports declined three percent compared to May 2017.

  • Uncoated free sheet (UFS) paper shipments through June 2018 remained essentially flat compared to the same six months of 2017. Imports of UFS increased eight percent year-over-year in May. Exports of UFS papers decreased two percent in May compared to May 2017.
  • Purchases of coated free sheet (CFS) papers decreased year-over-year in June 2018. Imports of CFS increased two percent year-over-year in May. Exports of CFS decreased 11 percent year-over-year in May.
  • Purchases of coated mechanical (CM) paper increased while purchases of uncoated mechanical (UM) papers decreased in June. Imports of CM papers increased 65 percent compared to May 2017, while imports of UM papers increased 10 percent compared to last May.
