Get ready to #CelebrateFP! The 57th anniversary of National Forest Products Week (NFPW) begins on October 15 and runs until October 21, and here at the American Forest and Paper Association (AF&PA), we are ready to shine a spotlight on our industry and its hard-working employees.
It’s one of our favorite times of the year. And throughout the week, AF&PA will be implementing a dynamic communications strategy to reinforce our sustainable manufacturing industry’s value to society, economic competitiveness and job creation.
Those of us in the business and others close to it know the numbers. Our companies provide family-wage jobs to approximately 900,000 men and women and support 2.4 million jobs. Our industry accounts for approximately four percent of the total U.S. manufacturing GDP and meets a payroll of about $50 billion annually. We are among the top 10 manufacturing sector employers in rural and urban communities across 45 states. We understand that the pulp, paper, packaging, tissue and wood products we produce are designed to make every-day life convenient, safe and just a little bit easier.
NFPW, recognized every year during the third week of October, provides a platform to help others appreciate the full breadth of that story too. There’s a wide mix of hard work, challenge, success and personal contribution behind forest products, and we want Americans to know about it. When individuals have the opportunity to understand the history behind that pad of paper, box of tissue, magazine or package of envelopes, they get know us a little bit better.
We invite you to join us and the many forest product manufacturers and organizations through the value chain who will be working to make this year’s NFPW the best ever. So mark your calendars, follow us on @ForestandPaper and @PaperRecycles and take part in the conversation with #CelebrateFP.
