Product & Packaging Fees

AF&PA opposes government-imposed fees on products and packaging as a means to promote recycling and waste reduction. Such fees unnecessarily increase costs for consumers, are regressive in nature, and create unintended consequences in the free flow of recoverable commodities.

Product Stewardship

AF&PA works to ensure that chemical and product-related legislation and regulations are protective of health, cost-effective, and based on scientifically sound approaches, thereby mitigating adverse regulatory and marketplace implications.

Trade

AF&PA supports free but fair trade policies.  It supports the elimination or significant reduction of foreign tariffs and non-tariff barriers that distort the international market, increases the cost of doing business abroad, and limits the industry’s export potential.

Transportation

AF&PA favors increasing the national truck weight maximum to achieve less congestion, decreased emissions, improved highway safety, increased efficiency, less road “wear and tear,” and improved global competitiveness. AF&PA also supports railroad antitrust reform and Surface Transportation Board (STB) improvements to ensure competition and protect rail customers from railroad monopoly power.

Wood Market Access

AF&PA policy maintains that wood products should enjoy unrestricted access to the marketplace. Any limits imposed through codes, standards, regulations, or guidelines should not discriminate between competing products and must recognize the beneficial performance characteristics that wood provides.
