WASHINGTON – The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) issued the following statement in support of Manufacturing Day 2016 which will be recognized across the country on Friday, October 7.

Manufacturing Day is co-produced by manufacturing industry leaders to underscore the benefits of manufacturing. Thousands of manufacturers are opening their doors to provide Americans a first-hand look at operations so they can better understand manufacturing and the jobs it creates. AF&PA represents an industry that is among the top 10 manufacturing employers in 45 states, employing nearly 900,000 men and women across the nation.

“Today’s knowledge can help build a stronger economy tomorrow; that’s why we support Manufacturing Day,” said AF&PA President and CEO Donna Harman. “By showcasing paper and wood product manufacturers, Americans have an opportunity learn more about our role in manufacturing. We represent 4 percent of U.S. manufacturing GDP and use highly innovative and sustainable business practices. We make products that people rely on every day at facilities that provide family-wage jobs and anchor the local economy. It’s a story with a bright future, and Manufacturing Day is another great opportunity to tell it.”
