Last week, Sen. John Boozman (R-AR) and Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR-04) toured Arkansas counties on their #Seed2Sawmill tour, highlighting all aspects of the forest products industry, from planting to manufacturing. We are pleased that they visited two AF&PA member company facilities on their tour: Evergreen Packaging’s Pine Bluff mill and Deltic Timber Corporation’s Del-Tin Fiber Plant in El Dorado.
The tour could not have come at a better time. In July, the Federal government reported that Arkansas had the nation’s fastest growing gross domestic product (GDP): the market value of goods and services produced by the labor and property located in a given state. According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Research, forestry products were among the key drivers of Arkansas’ growth. And no wonder: forest products are essential components of modern life and are made from a renewable resource — trees.
Sen. Boozman and Rep. Westerman have been champions of our industry and the people who work in our facilities. We appreciate that they took the time to see firsthand how our industry operates and the role it plays in local communities all across the country. The fact is that many Federal laws and regulations affect our business success. The more that lawmakers know about forest products manufacturing, the better informed they will be when formulating new laws and regulations.
AF&PA member companies are contributing positively to economic growth, and we look forward to continuing our work with federal, state, and local legislators to enable future growth. We appreciate the leadership Sen. Boozman and Rep. Westerman provide in representing the people of Arkansas.
